There are still places for up to ten primarily non-tonal composers, two primarily tonal composers, and three composers of any or no persuasion who simply have something interesting they'd like to contribute. There's no entry fee or competitive selection process: those accepted will simply be the first composers to declare their intention to take part through our e-mail link at the above URL.

There are plenty of fascinating public domain silent movie clips available on the Web from which to choose, and as long as you can produce your own mp3 or MIDI files, you have all the expertise you'll need.

We look forward to your participation!
"The Relative Probability of Forming a Knot" (2009) is an open form, or flexible structure, composition; 'groove', 'stasis', 'long', 'slow' could be its keywords; it relies strongly on the element of surprise as performers are not supposed to 'rehearse' the work in any final form, but rather play it anew each time again without any common agreements; performers will be Peter Zummo, trombone; Guy Klucevsek, accordion; JD Parran, reeds; Guy De Bièvre, lap steel…

Continuum invites audience members to step inside the composer’s mind by presenting Chrysalis, Sunday, January 24 (2-6 pm) at Toronto’s Gallery 345. The concert / workshop led by acclaimed Victoria composer Christopher Butterfield is a rare opportunity to gain insight into the specific challenges of writing music, through discussion and performance. Composers Anna Hostman, Lan-Chee Lam, William Peltier, Chris Thornborrow and Hiroki Tsurumoto (selected from a local call for scores) will have works performed by Continuum’s ensemble. Shedding a light on the craft of writing music, the lively composition master class - a discussion between Butterfield and participating composers – can be described as a “behind-the-scenes” experience. The event also includes a performance of Butterfield’s four pearls for piccolo, violin, cello and piano.
