DESCRIPTION:<i>Vocalypse Productions</i> production of <b>Monologue of
  a Lunatic</b> presents three of Canada’s finest contemporary musici
 ans in an evening of rare and unusual music for soprano, alto flute an
 d harpsichord from around the world. <b>Janice Jackson</b> has sung co
 ntemporary music the world over. \"Her performances bring out the beau
 ty of contemporary vocal repertoire.\" (Music Weekly, Beijing). <b>Mic
 helle Cheramy</b> teaches at Memorial University in Newfoundland. Her 
 playing is described as a “fine blend of artistry and bravura” (Ed
 monton Journal). <b>Simon Docking</b> is the artistic director of Hali
 fax’s Kumquat Series and is well known for his stunning musicianship
  and extraordinarily vivid interpretations of contemporary music.\n\nO
 n the program are two world premieres by Canadian composers, one by <b
 >Jérôme Blais</b> of Halifax, and another by <b>Alice Ping Yee Ho</b
 > of Toronto. Jerome’s work is a heartbreaking arrangement of a Yidd
 ish folk song, with words written by a young poet after watching the s
 hooting of 4000 Jewish men, women, and children in the Lithuanian vill
 age of Ponar. Alice’s piece sets the powerful poetry of Nova Scotian
  Carole Langille to music.\n\nOther works on the program include compo
 sitions from Holland, Greece, and Australia with texts from France, No
 rway, and Holland. Haunting melodies, tragic themes, terrible beauty, 
 ethereal fantasy, and enduring mystery – this is a concert that will
  excite and transport the listener to worlds beyond the imagination.\n
