I'm seriously planning to continue in some form the appreciation threads I've started with Moshier. Any talk about music is more than slippery, i know - but what are the other choices? Not to talk?
Generals in Burma refuse any discussion about their activities... We shouldn't be like them!

We should regain at least some harmless, descriptive way of talking about music. At least to be able to tell what is in fact there? Hm?

What do you think?

We should all talk about music as much as we want and we should not be influenced by a concern for what other's might say or what feelings might be aroused. In other words, I feel, nobody should refrain from posting here because it might bring out strong opinions. Some of us actually care about this shit! :) And some of us are just going through the motions... But recognizing what might happen when one says X is part of the territory - it's also why I think we have so few posters here.

One thing I do when I noticed I've incited people a bit too much or maybe said things that were maybe too strong for that moment, is just walk away. Just ignore the thread for a while. I've been doing that for years. It also helps you stay balanced - even though I'm used to being flamed (20 years of intellectual combat) I do find I think about what people post a bit too much. Just ignore the thread for a while. Start a new thread. This is a playground for music - and ideas.

We do all probably (except for Johnny of course, who we depend on for balance!!!) think a bit too much about this stuff. Posting can help and it can hurt. Distancing should be easy - it's a browser - it's not some guy you're sitting across from at a pub telling you you're full of shit.

:)

And just for the record I already know I'm full of shit! I have to live inside myself all the freakin' time!

We usually reserve anger, dismay or outrage over something upsetting which has happened to someone else when its gone too far.

Carpenter and her anorexia, Elvis and pills, and now MJ. I think the cause of his heart attack is going to be associated with several doctors. Even though MJ demanded those procedures, just look at what they did to him. He literally went from the coolest guy in the world (Thriller with albeit too much plastic surgery at that point as well) to a scarier version of The Dark Night's joker. I wouldn't be surprised if his death was due to prescription drug overdose or mixing the wrong types or just taking them for too long.

Looks like a doctor actually over-dosed him now and he's on the run!

Narcotic Injection Killed Jackson

He apparently was also suffering from an eating disorder. Another pop star who was a truly sad person inside and out. Weird how he couldn't make sad music though! :)

I've already heard a rumor on talk radio that he faked his death and now he's hiding . . .

...somewhere in Missoula, MT, along with Elvis, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain.

And maybe, just maybe, Beatle Paul will get his tunes back!

Nah. Paul's been dead since the 60s. He was in a car crash and suffered a fatal head injury. :-0

Glenn Gould also died at fifty from a cocktail of pharmaceuticals.Add to that Depression,Ego demands from self and others(i.e.stress- career-comeback),a scandalous past etc, & are we really surprised?Sad none the less. The liver and HEART can only take so much.RIP MJ

HaHa! Yes, it's eerie for me to keep seeing him referred to as MJ. Michael Jordan and I, and all other MJ's are probably having a weird time.

In response to Joseph, none of the other artists you mentioned electrified a whole era the way MJ did. Even if he was know as just a dancer, his legacy would endure. Hopefully we can all remember him in his glory days, and not the sad person he became. I"m a big fan of all the other artists you mentioned, probably like them all more in the long run, but you still can't deny how he affected the music industry. (As a kid, I hoped I was related to Sam Cooke (my mother's maiden name was Cooke), until my mother broke the news to me about race and how it probably wasn't likely. And no, there weren't any slaves in VT, so no families on the side.)
