"One reason why enthusiasm and programs maintain their forward momentum in the face of changing facts
and circumstances is the culture of corruption that inevitably comes to envelop these kinds of self-selecting
leadership groups organized around a crisis."

Global worming! Nah... I think that the more worms the better and promoting globalism amongst our wiggly friends is a good thing.

Global warming... yeah. Although I tend to believe that humans are just a lot better at FREAKING OUT than they are at either fucking up global systems or repairing global systems. So, I just worry (and don't drive, etc...).

Thanks for the good news! Although I think you're promoting a right-wing pseudo-libertarian think tank's take on the subject. ;-)

idea of a law-governed liberty.”

Now more than ever, it is vital that our policy responses are guided by the principles that best preserve the essence of America – its entrepreneurial spirit, belief in the dignity of individuals, and vigilant defense of liberty.

The mission of the Pacific Research Institute (PRI) is to champion freedom, opportunity, and personal responsibility for all individuals by advancing free-market policy solutions.

I really think that if we could just get more power into women's hands, that we'd slowly begin getting our population and wars under control and things would probably fix themselves. Free birth control and good basic education, clean water for everybody could be given to the world for the cost of us removing our sorry ass' from Irag, Afghanistan, Germany, all the other 70 or so countries we have troops...

Prior to the arrival of climate change as
a crisis issue, the largest single U.S. government science research project was the acid rain study of the 1980s
(the National Acid Precipitation Assessment Project, or NAPAP for short), which cost about $500 million,
and which concluded that the acid rain problem had been vastly overestimated. (Public opinion polls in the
late 1970s rated acid rain the most significant environmental problem of the time.) Today the U.S. government
is spending multiple billions each year on climate research—through so many different agencies and
budget sources that it is impossible to estimate the total reliably.

Good eye, Jeff, I corrected the spelling.
Jeff and Greg, tx for the background, I must admit I didn't know about all these important contexts.

(btw: better not to worry too much about anything)

These people spend a lot of money so that you don't even think about questioning their viewpoints. They spend money to hide their corporate patrons and they spend it to get their message out. It's sooo corrupt and sooo clever it's really nauseating and the end result they want is a science that is easily disputable, easy to create doubt - a science that isn't science. Their success in hiding and creating doubt is almost as scary as climate change itself.

I pretty much worry about living in the US to sum it all up. Altho global warming is a "global" issue obviously, its among the many other things there are to worry about in this fucked up world!

I don't think there is a perfect enough place for liberal composers. We're right, they're wrong. End of story!!!

Who's getting the money to hide the patrons?

Carlin is great! Wit and physicality are in beautiful harmony in his performance. (My aspirations in music...)
