i leave home to avoid possible shame about my undisclosed amputated foot (due to syphilis), and travel to the medieval buddhist castle in a car i don't have where all i can worry about is this car having been stolen because i didn't lock the door. i nearly fall out of a turret in the buddhist castle except for my hitherto unknown gymnastic "parkour" skills. a giant gets us all to touch his herniated torso underneath his american football garb. buddhism has allowed him to develop unnatural musculature and he says he has transcended the pain of his hernias but he is visibly in pain. he has horses legs. end.

Adam,

I'm interested in how you approached trying to parallel the structure of dream in your music. Has it been useful to you?

"building pieces whose over-all form some how parallels the form of dreams, not necessarily reflecting the "content." "
I've been trying to do exactly that.

What really interests me is the notion of building pieces whose over-all form some how parallels the form of dreams, not necessarily reflecting the "content." I've struggled with it for some years and I haven't had much success. There is very, very little written on the form of dreams. Anyone have any suggestions?

As to Schikele's dream. Wouldn't the space between the base and the root leave one awfully exposed? IN polite company one can really only get away with root position triads. Seventh chords are fine for formal wear. If one is in Paris and living among the high fashion crowd, then an added second or and added sixth is expected.

Good topic, and a good story!

Peter Schickele www.schickele.com/mix once related this dream in which he was on the front lawn of Swarthmore college considering making a big splash on campus by wearing a G6 (in the first inversion)chord. Now, he wasn't considering wearing a big piece of paper with the chord written on it, or wearing a loudspeaker that was playing the chord or anything like that. No, what he was considering wearing the actual chord. He used this account to speculate that dreams may be difficult to recall because you're trying in a logical frame of mind to reconstruct things that are inconceivable in a logical frame of mind; not things that defy the laws of nature, but things that you literally cannot imagine in a logical frame of mind . . . LOVE the Schickele!
