Hello to everybody! I've joined your group to learn about musically mastering tool. I'm a newbee in that - but would be great to know about it - I'm a founder of a network for creative fans and artists....

I'm curious if anyone can recommend any tools for quarter-tone composition. I'm specifically interested in any notation programs like Finale that can manage input and playback of quarter-tone notation.
Thanks!

I love reading about these wonderful things but they scare the shit out of me. I am NOT a natural programmer!!! I need to sit down and learn Max or Pd. Does one need to program to be a composer these days??? I do know: ProTools, Finale, DP 4, Peak... but anybody can learn those.

Thanks Elliot - I'm new here and I'm afraid I sent a broadcast e-mail by mistake. Your assessment of Max concurs with what I've heard elsewhere. I hate to keep putting off using it but it sounds like a poor idea for this project. Perhaps I'll tackle it in the future. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Not sure where to find the message from Robert Raines about MAX, so just replying here -- here's my take: MAX is awesome. But everything takes a long time, and it can be very frustrating to learn (your other music software experience won't help you at all). A beginner should not, I think, attempt a project on a deadline; you have no way of knowing what's possible and what's necessary. That said, if you have a long time to grow your skills as you work on a project, I'd recommend doing it -- it's extremely rewarding (for, perhaps, a particular kind of thinker).

I've tried Nodal and it is quite fun... definitely interesting, and pretty quick learning curve. I managed to get a piece out of it within a couple of days.

I tend to work with it rather randomly/intuitively though, some of those demos that play "composed" pieces are unbelievable achievments of sheer logic. I can't imagine doing that.
