I've been listening to John Adam's Doctor Atomic. The harmony is grey, driven by ostinati. The orchestration is effective but not colorful. The story doesn't grab me. It may be a brilliant piece, an example of what Messiaen would call a "dark" masterpiece. I may be blinded by sour grapes from not getting the same opportunity to premiere a large work in a major center but yet, I'm bored. Dave Seidel posted a blog post "you send me yours I'll send you mine" which I think is genius.
I have a hunger to listen to new CDs and, like Dave, I'm willing to trade mine for any member of NetNewMusic who might be interested.

- Hi Andrew, I'd be glad to trade CDs once mine is finished. I've been working on sequencing of several CDs of old material by request of the label I'm on. I'll upload some songs here from each CD once I finish the new album, "trauma".

Isn't it in every artists best interest to get as much 'exposure' as they feel comfortable with? I find it very disturbing to think that a composer may spend months working on a piece that only ends up getting heard by a few hundred people. I personally feel that if it's impossible to make any money off my art, the least I can do is try to spread my stuff around. What's the fun in being broke AND completely unknown?

I did indeed get your music, but I've remiss in mentioning it here (except on Twitter). So far, I've listened to Sonatas 1 & 7. I particularly enjoyed 7, which I hear in relation to the idea of the Eternal Moment, though in quite different terms than the ones I employ. I really like the way the material spins out in its own time, plenty of room to breathe. Great stuff. Just one (really, one-and-a-half) listens so far, but I'll be listening to it again for sure.
Coincidently, I started listening to your Bach Partitas as I drove to work today, and I'm enjoying them. It's an austere rendering, with a lot of clarity.
(On a different subject, re Adam Frey's comment below, the Ives is great, but my choice for a best case for microtonal music would be the Kepler Quartet's recording of Ben Johnston's String Quartets 2, 3, 4 & 9. One of my favorite string quartet recordings ever.)
