As you may know the AMC has a policy of discouraging fees as a way of covering the prize money. Here's the AMC statement on each Opportunity Update:

Unfortunately, we have to charging the entry fee to cover the prize money. I am sorry if $30 seems to be too much to spend, but it is on par with most of the competitions that are listed on AMC or ACF.

Hey Dave, I appreciate you calling attention to your project here. Sounds great and the past winners all seem interesting and eclectic. The only reason I won't be submitting a piece is the $30 entry fee. I'd be curious as to why that's needed? Not...
I'm a percussionist as well, but 'panels' give me the creeps!

- Dr. Dave Gerhart holds a D.M.A. from the University of Southern California in Percussion Performance with a secondary emphasis in Music Education, Ethnomusicology, and Music Industry & Technology. Dr. Gerhart received a M.M. in Percussion Performance and Instrumental Conducting and a B.M. in Music Education from California State University, Long Beach. He has been featured on CDs with the Robin Cox Ensemble and most recently with Steven Hartke on Sonic Scenery for the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. As a freelance musician, Dave has performed under Zubin Mehta, Mehli Mehta and has performed with Yo-Yo Ma, Bobby McFerrin, Michael Kamen, Yefim Bronfman, Ray olman, and Robert Greenidge. His principle teachers include Dr. Michael Carney, Erik Forrester, Brad Dutz and Raynor Carroll, principal ercussionist of the L.A. Philharmonic. Dave is currently the director of the CSULB University Percussion Ensemble and the CSULB New Music nsemble. He is also a member of the applied music faculty at CSULB. His arrangements for percussion ensemble are published by Go Fish Music.

Shane W. Cadman said… - I put on a small new music event each summer in Whittier (www.realnewmusic.com) and want to see if you would be interested in doing a short set of original pieces. The catch is we don't have any money. I'm putting together a Meet the Composer grant app, but it's due on the 7th. No guarantees there though. Let me know what you think.
