Raise UP, peepz!!!!

I find myself reflecting on the freedom that music offers to listeners 'round the globe on this fine/sunny 4th of July. It will have to be something like music/arts that liberates us, because it's clear that those (who think they are) in "power" have sorely missed the mark. The various & sundry conflicts we are involved in under their "leadership" (read "greed") are not inspiring any sort of "independence"... if anything, what they are promoting is enslavement.

So, as you watch the celebrat… Continue

"Average Joe" as a hermit!

There are moments when I find that music speaks to me with far more "consistency" and "weight" than most of the people I meet. The message conveyed by a certain piece of beautiful music doesn't change every time I encounter it... that's not to say that I don't hear nuances in a piece nearly each&every time I listen through it... that is the fantastic thing about communicating only with this medium... something new & fresh on each listen.

Of course, the listener can control the messages… Continue

Memoirs?

A friend in the "underground home-taper network" recently sent me a massive tome (that will be reviewed in the next issue) that definitely got me hepped up for thinking through my life... won't mention his name right now, because I want to keep the review a surprise, but it made me think back to when all the "oldsters" in my family would tell us that as they grew in age, there was a tendency for them to think about writing their memoir... at the ripe young age I heard that, I said (to myself) -… Continue

The balance in "Mantis" between the conflicting elements is pretty weak; can barely hear your contribution. Sounds like three or four pieces strewn together. Unsure of your intent. "Gently Spoken"'s harmonic language is not very deliberate (somewhat unsure?); therefore, the piece comes across as meandering. Is the work written out or improvised? Can't tell by listening. Remember, this is "constructive criticism" from one individual.

Dick,

As it's improv Friday, I uploaded some guitar blues (mostly) guitar solos I've recorded. I will upload some classical compositions soon.

I hope you enjoy!

"...it's really GREAT to be able to share music with true creatives! In my mind, that's what life IS - creation! "
I couldn't agree more Dick! Creativity and creating is what I believe to be the highest calling - and my favorite quote (from Leonard Bernstein) is :

"In the Beginning was the Note, and the Note was with God.
And Whosoever could reach for that Note, reach High,
And bring it back to us on Earth, to our Earthly Ears,
He is a Composer.
And to the extent of his reach, partakes of the Divine."

Reach far Dick!

Very good improv! That's where my focus in music has been the last 4 years - in my case I got "taken" with the Blues, with a jazz flavor, but closer to the improvisational styles of Eric Clapton, the 3 Kings (BB, Albert, Freddie), Buddy Guy, Robert Cray and so many others who got started before and up through the late 60's (and 1967 is when I started both composing classical style music as well as playing guitar, although it was folk and classical until the Blues "got me" and now won't let go.. :) ).

I will be posting both some of my non-improvisational classical composition recordings and well as recordings of me improvising Blues solos (which is just another form of composing, IMO). I just got laid off from a job that left me no free time what-so-ever (in software engineering, not music) and I feel freed rather than down as I would have expected. So, I have a lot of catching up to do, but positing more of my works and recording new ones are at the top of my list of things to do! And I can't wait!!

Thanks again - and again - great music Dick!!! You are indeed an excellent musician!
