Richard Barrett in a talk with Sarah Mohr-Pietsch about his new piece

In my country there never was an audience for classical music anyway It's all up :) - more realistically, modern 'experimental' music entered Australia via the visual art world in the 70s. At leas...

I'm not such a fan of Minsky and the AI program he is part of. But then again I'm a (non-practicing) neuroscientist. :)

I don't really get isaac's programme - to me it is another factor analytic approach like most attempts at tagging. I can't see how it helps music criticism other than setting down a limited set of ...

I am a fan of user testing in the arts - you've got a clear goal for who you'd like to play your work and working with those people to find a way for that to succeed makes complete sense to me.

I wouldn't contrast intuition and intelligence so strongly - it doesn't seem supported unless you think of intelligence as a mode of description ie the ability to describe the process whereby an outcome was achieved. Intuition seems to me a partic...

The more I think of it the better your Strassbahn concert sounds. It would be a really fun party.

sounds very pleasant Paul - I would love to do such a concert. Australia is conservative and conformist rather than refined. and I was only joking in my comment - I shuold have put a smiley up - I thought it was a good idea too, although it is il...

Greg: Well Australia is obviously too refined for such a concept to work. Actually in Bremen, Germany it is considered fashionable to hire a Strassbahn (streetcar) for an evening and you and 20 firends can scoot all over town while drinking as muc...

This rings true to most artists I think and is not at all inconsistent with being pleased when others like what we have done.

suburban concert series and audience development

As part of my audience development programme I shall be driving around the local suburbs and playing my music at a reasonable volume with the windows wound down. In particular I will be seeking audiences at stop lights, although people walking through the suburbs will also be able to get a brief listen as I drive slowly by. If this concert series is successful I will open it up to other composers and performers.

Danny Boy

There's been a bit of popular song up here lately so I dug up this old version of Danny Boy for found singer and signal processing.

an old improv

I found this trawling my hardrives for files to delete. It's a duet with Eugene Carchesio on sax (and bumping into a cymbal :) ) and me on guitar. Free improv, there might be an overdub of guitar drone, but maybe not. Either way it was mainly played straight out as a duet and recorded live at my house. Or at least that's how I remember a session from about 20 years ago :)… Continue

more field recordings

The sound of English seagulls. Australian seagulls are not like this. Our pigeons are however the same. There is a nice fly-by at the start. Good for headphones.
recorded in Brighton, England.

also the long version of brighton fireworks is there as well

I shall be using the "orphans" album for all sorts of field recordings Continue

Sorry Greg, I wasn't implying that you weren't "taking it seriously": it was intended for other members who don't comment at all! (any feedback/comment is good)
