KURTAGONALS

Creators:
György Kurtág – composition, synths
László Hortobágyi – music, mixage
Miklós Lengyelfi – bass

Kurtagonals 2008 is the musical summary and integration of a twenty-year-long working relationship among three musicians grown up in different musical cultures – coming true in the 3rd Millennium.

In a diary-like way, it sums up the musical oeuvre of the contributors, with especial regard to György Kurtág Jr.’s life-work, that is underlying the whole record.

Principal intention of Kurtagonals project is to re-contextualize these compositions, originally born in a classical avant-garde musical atmosphere, into a 21st Century final form.
The joint efforts have resulted in a so far non-existent genre of „contemporary audiopod”, that is a collage of music with unique tonality and unusual compositional form.

Technology has abolished distance both in space and time, at the same time. The most necessary prerequisite for contemporary chamber-music is not the „to be present” anymore, but the deep understanding of music ideas and the capability of responding to music materials.

Some of the themes that are forming basic material of this album were born some 30 years ago, but their hidden potential have been recognized in our days by another composer.

The kind of talent, by which László Hortobágyi does understand the acoustic and music environment required by each and every themes „to flourish”, belongs to one of the most important qualities of musicians of the 21st Century.
