Profile Information

short bio
TINA PEARSON has been enthralled with sound from her childhood experiences of intense listening in the wilds of the Canadian Shield. As a composer-performer and improvisor, (extended flute, voice, accordion, glass, electronics) she has collaborated with choreographers, dancers, visual artists and other composers and musicians to create multi-disciplinary works that play with boundaries between creator, performer, and audience. She is fascinated with the harmonic series, and often incorporates it hugely or subtly in the tonal and/or temporal content in her work. Tina's compositions and/or performances have been presented in concerts and/or broadcasts in Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia. She has taught at the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto, and was the editor of the Canadian publication Musicworks. Tina currently resides in Victoria, BC, Canada, where she curates new music events, is director of the electroacoustic ensemble LaSaM and a facilitator of soundwalks and new music workshops . As her avatar Humming Pera, she is also a member of the international collaboration Avatar Orchestra Metaverse on the virtual reality platform Second Life.

Ultimately, a virtuosity of listening would imply audience, performer, composer. I was referring particularly to composer-performers and improvisors - without listening virtuosity in performers, I suspect a composer's listening virtuosity is dimin...

Good points. I have been thinking of other aspects of virtuosity lately ... virtuosity of listening, response, gesture, timing. Some of the most astonishing music, that has really moved me, has these elements, but not really the extreme level of t...
