Jason Francesco Heath is a Los Angeles based composer and guitarist. A graduate of UCLA, he studied Spanish literature and world religions, allowing him to unite such disciplines as anthropology, philosophy, art history, and ethnomusicology. He has worked in community-based outreach and education, creating and facilitating creative writing and music workshops for at-risk youth in Los Angeles. He has studied music in Chile at the conservatory of the University of Valparaíso. There he studied Jazz and Classical guitar and performed the national premier of Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint as a founding member of Planeta Minimal, a guitar ensemble specializing in twentieth century music and led by Ismael Cortez. In Los Angeles Jason has studied composition with flute virtuoso and composer James Newton, and classical guitar with composer/guitarist Matthew Elgart of the Elgart/Yates duo. Jason composes music for films and documentaries as well as art music for mixed media and chamber ensembles of various instrumentations.
