I knew Jeff since Usenet days, so I got an invite...I guess he figured I'd be an asslet.
All this deep thinking on the meaning of the piece as social commentary is so...uh...EUROPEAN. ;-)
Now, what would be interesting would be to have the Chinese guy write his own piece on the experience, and do them together...sort of the way Renais...
But think of the poor composers who would otherwise never have an opportunity to make a living as composers and would have to spend every night playing honky-tonk qin in some sake dive somewhere.
It's my job to know these things.
I downloaded catalog copy for a recording of Turnage's Three Screaming Popes, and the idjit cataloger had done a subject heading of "Bacon Francis 1561 1626--Songs And Music" instead of "Bacon Francis 1909 1992-- ...

Program notes!!!
Excuse me while I vent. I just finished producing the programs for next weekend's Composer's Guild concert. I don't have to do assembly and layout, except that the person who does that and I are both too brain-dead to figure out how to do bookletty things in Word, so we end up cutting the pages apart and pasting them up in proper order before photocopying. But I do feel the need to do a little cursory proofing of the copy I get.
