Not only these guys know they way around a piano, but they are really funny.

I'm in a somewhat odd situation in that I pretty much taught myself composition. I showed a piano piece to my high school 'Music Appreciation' teacher. She handed me a miniature score of the Saint- Saens Piano Concerto #2 and said, "See if you can r…

Hi Neil, I apologize if I misunderstood your affiliations. You can understand that given you signed in practically minutes before the post and promoted the software so enthusiastically, it would be easy to assume some sort of affiliation. That's exac…

Listen and fool around on your instrument. Even Aaron Copland said to do that. Write it down or just scribble something similar to what sounds you like. Also write down descriptive words about what you want. And don't follow a book unless you want t…

Hello Everyone, For the record I am not associated in anyway with the 'Secret Composer' program, I wish I was. I just thought you all might be somewhat interested in it. I found out about it by going a 'Google' search for 'music composing online'.…

Well, I have had a chance to look into this "Secret Composer" software and I think I am ready to report on it. For starters, it is a pretty good effort. The medium is easy to use and the information well laid out. It's target audience however, mus…

2 new Pieces uploaded to my page

I finally decided that waiting for my music to reach perfection before posting it was futile and I uploaded two of my own compositions for everyone to listen to and comment.

I will be grateful for any constructive comments other members can provide on either piece. When I say "constructive" I mean to keep nasty comments (like "it sucks") to yourself and instead go listen to your own music to see if it may deserve the same treatment.

But, feel free to let me know where I have gone wrong and how… Continue

Composing music as a hobby

I was trained as a classical guitarist and reading and writing music has never been one of my strengths.
Composing (in the traditional sense: pen, sheet music, etc.) has never even crossed my mind, but since the mid 80's, when cheap(er) keyboards and MIDI equipment made it possible for any Joe to turn digital composer, I have had a fantasy of composing my own music .

My biggest mistake has been to try to compose the type of music traditionally meant for synt and drum machine. I guess, that even… Continue

These numbers use the idea of using Shoemberg the Clsss Pitch sets and vectors, which were used for much of the symphony, although the beginning is a very traditional counterpoint using scales Messian and the only part of the harp and piano as a wrap and a pre-presentation of the themes that I use the system symmetrical. Thank you very much again for listening to my music and likes to tell you something more detail do not hesitate to ask.

Gladly tell you my creative process, I always ask my students that they seek Why and what of his work that gives them a clearer idea and the work usually begins to acquire his soul (which for me is the most important) In my symphony No. 1, what I did for a long time to remember my dreams and above all the numbers that appear there, for example: I dreamed that day went to London and saw the number of the station, the license plate number Police and a few hours I was there ...

Thank you very much for listening to my Muisca and make a comment. MIDI is a great tool, but only to provide the harmony and rhythm, sounds and particularly the joints do not give, and you understand that it is frustrating and especially cold. I recommend a lot to be your inner ear that guide your creative process.
Keep in mind that the creative process is like making a math test, starting with the simplest, perhaps is the beginning or end, no matter, the case is that you do not stop the creativity, and if you plan to stop, please to do your work on something else, such as: Program note, in passing clean sheet, or do a brainstorming to help you continue....
