We have a feeling we may have experienced something that others have not. We care about this and make music to try to pass the feeling on...

'Music and the Mind' by Anthony Storr is a superb read. Sadly, I think it's out of print and I lent my copy to a student... (so now I'm off to Amazon and Ebay having fondly remembered it). The blurb runs: 'Why does music have such a powerful effe...

I once took part (when I was in my twenties) in a 24 hour open improv in Southampton in a large community building. You didn't have to play for the whole session, just contribute to 'keep the kettle boiling'. Two incidents stayed with me from that...

I have read some of Hockney's own books on perspective etc. but not this one - so thanks for this Rudiger, I shall seek it out.

Picasso's cubist 'Portrait of Ambroise Vollard' (1910) is a constant source of inspiration to me. You feel as if you can walk right into this man - both literally and metaphorically.

Yes. I make indeterminate paintings in parallel with my work in indeterminate composition. However, I do think making a direct visual accompaniment for music is problematic because, as Jeff says, it closes down the possibilities for the audiences ...

Consemble - call for sounds 2009

Inspired by 'open source' I have an 'open compositions' sound art project called 'Consemble' in which you are all very welcome to contribute.

There are four project licenses, each with its own theme:
Consemble E - 'soul electric';
Consemble F - 'washed up on your island';
Consemble G - 'sky writing' ;
and Consemble C2 - 'the idea of voice' (second licence);.
The idea is for you to listen to the current version of a consemble and then send your own sounds, the ones you think should be included, to build ongoing, indeterminate compositions. The project is open to all and I am particularly interested in obtaining contributions from a range of peoples - from professional composers to non-musicians.

Further Details at: www.chameleonlectra.co.uk/Consemble

Last year's Consembles: A-D can also be heard.

Hey Paul:
No question is dumb. Yes, 1-2, 3-4, etc. I'm adding a few tonight, no.'s 17 & 18.
The pairing's not a big deal but it satisfies an intent that is somewhat antique but fun.

Hey Paul:
Maybe wait till I'm finished (within a month) then pick two you like and I'll send the mp3's. I'd like to keep the 'pairs' concept since that's how they were (are) presented on the site.

A bit worn out still! Just wanted to get back to you because I was honored that you asked about me participating in your work. Will let you know when the chops are back in order.

Hi Paul, yes I took a look at the project a while ago - I was thinking of adding some bits to the 'idea of voice' collection - using some fragments from my 'lydfabet' project which is a sound-poetry project based around the Danish alphabet (more info on my website - www.rudigermeyer.com/lydfabet.html . I haven't gotten round to preparing any fragments yet but there will be some on their way soon.

Best wishes, Rudiger
