New Piece - Fée des Cimes for Solo Flute and Mike Marshall Premieres Indigo Trails Sunday!

I just finished a solo flute piece, Fée des Cimes and it is 6 minutes of wild flight. Here's a draft score:

Fée des Cimes for Solo Flute - Draft Score

Fée des Cimes - Synthesized Recording

Sunday night, the great poly-stylistic mandolinist Mike Marshall and Gyan Riley (Terry Riley's son) will premiere my new piece Indigo Trails for Mandolin and Guitar. It's a fund raiser for New Music Works and today there's a story in the Silicon Valley newspaper Mercury News about the concert - Something new for New Music Works' garden party.

So I just got word from a great flutist who says that it's not only playable, but that a good flutist could play it even faster than I notated it. That, and the breathing is fine. He gave me a bunch of notational suggestions too. What a relief - I started fearing that I'd written an piece too hard to be played. He said that both Berio's Sequenza and Sciarrino's Hermes were much harder and even too long! :)

This is a wild piece, Jeff. Like supervirtuoso music for the ney. But harmonically much richer. Far out! Will send this to my old flute and guitar partner who now lives in Miami, Robert Billington. He's a powerful player.

Steve, Elsie's was a flutist and she thinks it's fucking hard but playable. Hehe... I'll find out shortly! I've got about 5 flutists already trying it out! :)

Adam, I found my own language in 93! This is just having the time. The pathetic truth is that for the past 2 months that I've gotten so much done, I've been stuck at home with a sports injury from biking/walking too much in the morning so I'm working 6-8 hours a day on music... I was biking about 2 hours a day and walking on the beach about an hour a day every day and I have strains all over.

When it stops hurting I'll get back to my piece very two months instead a piece every month. ;-)

You're so prolific now, Jeff, as baroque composers used to be...
What happened?
Have you found your own language? ;-)

"Elvin in Tangiers": Very dramatic, rhythmically aggressive, and (I think) fucking hard! (But cool)
