The Net New Music Community Since 1994

Connect is composed and performed by Danny de Graan & Marijke de Moel between 1998 and 2001. This performance was held in 2000 at the AVIGNONumerique festival in Avignon, France. The technology behind the performance was based on colour recognition and motion tracking software BigEye from STEIM. The sound generation and manipulation was completely done in Max MSP. All of the sound material is derived from the voice of Marijke, sometimes real-time and sometimes by triggering pre-record samples. The text was based on a sentence by Friedrich Nietzsche which is dissected during the course of the performance starting with the vowels. Then the words and at the climax the sentence which is real-time granulated at the end of the performance. Marijke de Moel controls curtain sound parameters by moving her hands trough space. Danny de Graan maps the parameters during the performance so there are smooth transitions between the different parts. Sadly, Marijke de Moel died in 2002 at the age of 25. She is deeply missed.
